Kimberly Wang (송은별) LPC (she/her)

I am a fully licensed professional counselor who supports you as you find your way in this thing called “life.” I specialize in working with adolescents and young adults in an array of issues such as mood disorders, life transitions, empowerment, or just figuring out the big question “who am I?”

Language: English

Population: Ages 13+,  mainly working with adolescents and young adults

My Story

I am a second generation Korean- American born and raised in Georgia. I have been interested in the mental health field since I was 15 when unfortunately I was introduced to the concept of suicide and bipolar disorder.

Since then, I have graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelors in Psychology in 2015 and a Master's in Clinician Mental Health Counseling at Mercer University Atlanta in 2017. My main experience in the field has been at Ridgeview Institute Smyrna which is a stabilization hospital for those in crisis or need higher levels of care. My biggest pride in working in the mental health field is working with those who often experience intense suicidal ideation and using self harming behaviors to cope with the stress of life. These thoughts are due to underlying mood disorder such as depression, anxiety, bipolar, etc.  This topic can be hard to speak up about by many due to different fears, but during sessions, there is no judgement and making sure safety as well as communication are our highest priority.

From my experience at the hospital, I was able to gain skills in assessing and evaluating different mood disorders as well as levels of high risk behaviors. Treatment was given on a short term basis, but in this practice the first focus is usually to maintain safety as well as discussing skills to alleviate symptoms as soon as possible so that long term psychotherapy can be processed without extreme dysregulation.

My therapeutic approach is more Humanistic, which means that you are seen as an unique individual navigating through life instead of as a diagnosis. I believe that a positive therapeutic relationship is the foundation to creating a safe, trusting, and non judgmental place to have open communication and explore past, present, and future together. If you don’t like your therapist, how can we accomplish anything, right? Other theories used are Solution Focused Theory, Reality Theory, Choice Therapy, and aspects of Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Each use of theories will be incorporated and tailor to your specific needs.

I will be your biggest cheerleader as well as challenge you through this journey of self growth. :)

Outside of the office, I enjoy cooking, trying out new foods and cafes, and travelling.

Fee:  $120 for 50-55 minutes of individual, couples, and family sessions.

I will provide any necessary documents for out of network insurance claims submissions. Please check your out of network reimbursement benefits when working with an out of network provider.
